Demand for nutritional supplements has also increased as interest in health care has soared since COVID-19. However, there are still many people who have difficulty choosing depending on the amount of information, or who stop or can’t start taking because they don't get used to the routine that they have to take every day.
The idea started with the fact that every member of our team was taking at least one nutritional supplement. In fact, the health functional food market in Korea has grown by 20 percent in five years.
According to a report, 72 percent of respondents said they were eating nutritional supplement. Even 43.5 percent of non-dieters said they were willing to take nutritional supplements in the future. These results have shown that this market has potential.
However, when asked why non-dieters don't take nutritional supplements, they answered simply because they were lazy and easily forgot to eat.
Existing supplement management applications primarily focus on personalized health recommendations. Fampill differentiates itself from competitors by offering a holistic approach to supplement management.
Unlike generic health trackers or specialized nutrition apps, Fampill focuses on:
Community-driven motivation: Fampill fosters a supportive community where users can connect, share experiences, and encourage one another.
Visualized health impact: By allowing users to track their overall well-being alongside their supplement intake, Fampill provides tangible evidence of the benefits of supplementation.
Simplified supplement management: With customizable schedules, reminders, and progress tracking, Fampill makes it easy for users to stay on top of their supplement routine.
I conducted User interview with 7 people of MZ Generation to know the real voice of the user and found out few pain points and insights.
Pain Point
Difficulty in managing supplement intake: Users struggle to remember when and if they've taken their supplements.
Uncertainty about the effectiveness: Users doubt the benefits of supplements due to inconsistent results or misinformation.
Lack of Motivation: Users find it challenging to stay consistent with supplement intake without external motivation.
Insights
Need for simplification: Users desire a straightforward and easy-to-use system for tracking supplement intake.
Desire for transparency: Users seek clear information about supplement benefits, ingredients, and potential side effects.
Importance of social support: Users value the ability to share experiences and support each other in their health journeys.
Focus on tangible results: Users want to see evidence of supplement effectiveness and track their progress.
These insights highlight the need for a user-friendly platform that not only simplifies supplement management but also provides transparency, community support, and measurable results.
Project Goal
Addressing the challenge of consistent supplement intake, I've designed a feature that automates the process of reminding users when to take their supplements. By allowing users to input their specific supplements and desired intake times, the app sends timely push notifications. To cater to the common practice of taking supplements in the morning, I've set the default reminder time to 8 AM, based on user feedback. This feature not only helps users stay on track with their health goals but also reduces the cognitive load associated with remembering to take their supplements
This design exploration focused on creating an effective and intuitive interface for users to track their daily supplement intake. Four design variations (A, B, C, D) were developed, each with distinct characteristics. After careful consideration, we landed on version D which looked the most organized and remained consistent.
To address users' uncertainty about the effectiveness of their supplements, I've introduced a visual intake tracking feature. This feature allows users to record their daily well-being by selecting from options like 'poor,' 'average,' and 'good.' These mood selections are then color-coded and displayed on a calendar view, providing a visual representation of their health trends over time. Additionally, a dedicated 'My Page' section offers a more comprehensive visualization of their data, allowing users to easily identify patterns and track their progress. By providing a tangible way to see the impact of their supplements, I aim to empower users and boost their motivation to continue their journey for healthy life."
I evaluated two design options for the calendar display, and ultimately selected Design A. While Design B initially seemed visually striking due to its use of multiple colors, it was ultimately determined that this level of visual noise could be distracting and potentially overwhelming for users.
I conducted a wireframe comparison for the report view, focusing on the most effective way to present intake rate and supplement lists. Though both options offered valuable insights, we ultimately selected Option A. While the calendar view in Option B offers a visual representation of data, the numerical approach in Option A provides a more precise and actionable understanding of the user's health trends. This choice aligns with our goal of creating a user-centric design that empowers users to make informed decisions about their health.
Recognizing the power of social influence, I designed a community feature where users could connect with friends and family. This enabled users to share their supplement journeys, offer support, and celebrate milestones together, fostering a sense of accountability and motivation.
The way information is presented visually has a significant impact on user experience. Effective use of color, typography, and layout can enhance user understanding and engagement.
Striking the right balance between form and function is essential. A design should not only look good but also be practical and user-friendly.
Successful design requires collaboration with cross-functional teams. Effective communication and teamwork are key to delivering successful products.
